Finding Peace in Motion: My Yoga Journey

Hello, dear readers, and welcome back to Just Catrina!

Today, I want to take you on a journey, not through a far-off destination or a thrilling adventure, but rather through the profound landscape of self-discovery and inner peace. Join me as we explore my personal journey into the world of yoga, a practice that has brought me tremendous clarity, strength, and serenity.

A Humble Beginning: My journey with yoga began as a quest to reconnect with my inner self and find solace amidst life's chaos. I vividly remember my very first yoga class, a blend of curiosity and apprehension. I rolled out my mat, uncertain of what lay ahead.

A Journey Within: As the instructor guided us through various poses, I realized that yoga wasn't just about physical flexibility but also about mental and emotional flexibility. It invited me to explore the depths of my being, to breathe through discomfort, and to let go of what no longer served me.

Physical and Mental Benefits: Over time, I began to experience the numerous benefits of yoga. Physically, my body grew stronger and more flexible. Mentally, I found clarity and peace during moments of practice. Yoga taught me the profound art of being present, both on and off the mat.

The Power of Breath: One of the most transformative aspects of yoga for me has been the emphasis on breath. Learning to harness the power of breath has been invaluable in managing stress and finding calm in the midst of life's storms.

Mind-Body Connection: Yoga is the thread that weaves together the fabric of the mind and body. It has taught me that true wellness is a harmony between the two. When we nurture our bodies with mindful movement and nourish our minds with inner peace, we find a sense of balance that is truly transformative.

A Lifelong Journey: My yoga journey is far from over. It's a lifelong commitment to self-discovery and well-being. Each day, each practice, is an opportunity to delve deeper into the profound wisdom that yoga offers.

I invite you to embark on your own journey, whether it's through yoga or another practice that resonates with you. The path to self-discovery is uniquely yours, and it's a journey well worth taking.

Thank you for joining me on this exploration of my yoga journey. Remember, it's never too late to begin your own journey toward inner peace and self-discovery.

I would like to discuss that I attended my first certification class and initially, I felt as though I didn't belong. The other ladies were so beautifully thin and slim. I wouldn't call my obese but I am definitely not skinny. I can recall the instructor asking if anyone had any questions and I raised my hand and ask did I belong there due to my size. She looked at my with such warmth, as did the girl beside me. They both assured me that I belonged and that size does not matter when it comes to yoga. I have always been my worst critic. Whether I'm not skinny enough, smart enough, or good enough. My instructor told me that this is going to be a needed and beautiful journey for me because it's not just about "asana" or poses. It's about so much more and a term she used was ahima meaning nonviolent or nonharm to oneself or others. That includes physically, mentally, spiritually and beyond. She wanted me to remember that even when I left the studio and integrate it into a part of my daily practices/life. I believe this yoga journey will be a beautiful one for me and needed. Even if I can't perfect the downward dog just yet.

Title: Embracing My Yoga Journey: Beyond the Mat

Hello, dear readers, and welcome back to Just Catrina!

Today, I want to take you on a journey through one of the most transformative experiences of my life – my first yoga certification class. This journey was not just about learning poses and techniques; it was about embracing my own self-worth and challenging the inner critic that has plagued me for years.

Doubts and Insecurities: As I walked into that yoga studio on the first day of class, I couldn't help but feel a wave of doubt wash over me. The other women in the class seemed so beautifully slim and graceful, while I had my own insecurities about my body. I raised my hand and asked the instructor if I truly belonged there, given my size. Her warm smile and the reassuring nod from the girl beside me instantly eased my worries.

Size Doesn't Define Us: The instructor's response was a profound revelation. She emphasized that yoga is not about the shape or size of your body; it's about the connection you build with yourself, both physically and mentally. The practice of yoga, she explained, is a journey within, where self-acceptance and self-love are the true milestones.

A Lesson in Ahimsa: During the course, my instructor introduced me to the concept of "ahimsa," which means nonviolence or non-harm to oneself and others. It extends far beyond the physical aspect of yoga and encompasses our mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being. Ahimsa invites us to be gentle with ourselves, to silence the inner critic, and to practice self-compassion.

A Beautiful Journey Ahead: As the days of the certification class passed, I realized that this journey was about much more than perfecting poses. It was an exploration of self-discovery, a path to self-acceptance, and a commitment to living a life filled with compassion, not only towards others but towards myself.

Beyond the Mat: My instructor's wisdom transcended the boundaries of the yoga studio. She encouraged me to carry the principles of ahimsa with me into my daily life. It's not just about what we do on the mat; it's about how we show up in the world.

Closing Thoughts: My yoga journey is just beginning, and I may not have perfected the downward dog just yet. But what I have perfected is my understanding of self-acceptance and my commitment to treating myself with kindness.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Remember, no matter where you are on your own path, you are always exactly where you need to be.

With self-love and gratitude,

Just Catrina
